I made it! I'm in the land of the brave and home of the free. I'd forgotten what a mission it is going directly from Perth to Los Angeles and then onto my hotel via public transport.
My 5am flight from Perth to Sydney was uneventful and my window seat made for some nice views and a little sleep. I awoke somewhere over western new South Wales and had a nice view of Sydney as we came into the airport. It was good to have no access to computers, internet, phones or any technology at all.
My flight to LA was great. Aboard one of those new double decker airbuses, I was upgraded to 'Premium Economy' which is up with business class. The gave me about two metres of legroom, incredible meals and two stewards looking after about 20 people. I managed a fair amount of sleep and watch a couple of movies on my personal high definition display. I had a go at chess but after being beaten to checkmate in four moves by the computer, I gave up and watched half a dozen episodes of Family Guy.
I sailed through customs and imigration in LAX and was outside looking for transport a shitload faster than I'd planned. I took a but to Union Station and then a train out to Santa Clarita. This is where things got a little testy because after an hour waiting for two busses that did not show, I decided to train it back to a previous stop and try there. So back to Newhaul station and again, no bus. Just as I was about to slip into a jetlag trance, a cab rocked up and I took that to the hotel and promptly crashed for a 14 hour sleep.
The things we do. Next - Magic Mountain.
